Cooking with Persimmons

Freshly ripe persimmon in Conroe, Tx

Persimmons when ripe, are a sweet juicy fruit called “fruit of the gods”. They are a deep golden color.

For us, cooking with persimmons is bougie dirtbagging because they unusual and *Free.* My Mom has a mature persimmon tree in front yard that gives her more fruit than she knows what to do with. Every year I look forward to visiting her in the fall to try her newest creation and bring some fruit home to try my own recipes.

Here’s our top 3 ideas:

  1. Persimmon Cookies

A perfect, seasonal treat! We found a great recipe here

  2. Add to Oatmeal

  3. Persimmon infused Margarita

I first made these with my Mom over Thanksgiving. The puree was tart and tangy and gives the drink a beautiful tint. Check out this recipe from Flavor and Friends.
